This is the sort of detail that matters in racing: knowing your horse needs fast, firm conditions is the difference between picking a winner and watching it struggle through the mud. The horse last tasted victory at Redcar on 7 May this year, four months ago, and has been unable to find the frame in its last six outings. Whether that dip reflects hard-to-come-by good ground conditions or a simple loss of form remains to be seen.

Catterick Bridge is another story entirely. One of Our Own has won three of ten races there — a 30% win rate that makes it a genuine course specialist. This is a horse that suits Catterick, whether because of the track itself or because trainer Rebecca Menzies, based in Morden, Durham, has found the right formula there. Menzies has sent out 36 winners this season, suggesting a competent operation. In Class 6 races — the horse's bread and butter — it has won five of 23 outings (22%), which is solid work at that level. One of Our Own is not a horse heading to the big time. But it is the type that pays its way — a genuine dirt-tracker with clear preferences for dry ground and Catterick, and a working relationship with both its rider and yard. After four months without a win, its next appearance on a fast surface at its favoured track could be worth noting.
