Ocean Heights

The numbers split sharply depending on the ground underfoot. On fast, dry conditions, Ocean Heights has won 2 of just 7 races — that's nearly 1 in 3, which is a genuinely impressive rate for any horse at this level. It also goes well on wet, muddy ground, winning 2 of 12 races there. Throw in a preference for a distance of around a mile and three or four furlongs — winning 4 of 18 races at that trip, or 1 in every 4.5 — and you start to see a horse with a very specific sweet spot.

Kempton Park is where Ocean Heights first announced itself, winning there on 20 December 2023, and it has gone on to win twice from 11 visits to that track. For a horse that competes mainly at Class 4 level, the kind of solid mid-tier racing that fills out most fixtures, returning to the same venue twice as a winner is the mark of a course specialist — and punters who follow these patterns tend to take notice. Most of those runs at Kempton have been with regular jockey Jack Dace, who has ridden the horse 12 times and partnered it to 2 of its 4 career wins, a win rate of 1 in 6.

The form over the last six races tells a more sobering story. A third-place finish is the best of a recent sequence that includes a couple of sevenths, and the last win came at Haydock Park in May 2025 — now over a year ago. At nine, horses don't always have the ability to reinvent themselves, but Ocean Heights raced just yesterday, so the team at Pipe's yard clearly still believes there's a race to be won. With 35 winners sent out this season, David Pipe is operating in fine form — now it's a question of whether Ocean Heights can find its moment again when the right track and the right ground line up.
