Not My Type

What matters most here is consistency. Not My Type has won two of its last three races and has never run poorly enough to finish worse than fifth in any of them. For a young horse still learning the game, that kind of reliability is rare. Most two-year-olds will have a few disaster runs as they figure things out; this one has been solid from the start. William Haggas trains from Newmarket and runs one of the busiest yards in the country—his team sent out 170 winners already this season—so the horse is in a setup that knows how to develop young talent and find the right races.

The recent fifth-place finish suggests Not My Type may have stepped up in class or run into a stronger field, which is normal for a horse this promising. Whether it bounces back or takes another race or two to find its feet will tell us whether this is genuinely exceptional young horse or a steady performer having a good early run. Either way, it has earned the right to be watched.
