The real story with North View is what it likes. The horse absolutely thrives on fast, dry ground: it has won two of its ten races on those conditions, which works out at one win in every five races — double its overall rate. That's a significant edge, and it explains why the January win at Chelmsford mattered. On softer going, North View struggles to find that extra gear. The sweet spot is a shorter distance too — anywhere from five to six and a half furlongs — where it has won one from five races. At 5f–6½f on fast ground, you have a horse that knows what it wants and has shown it can deliver. The trouble is that eight months is a long drought, and those last six races suggest something has shifted.
Tony Carroll's Cropthorne yard in Worcestershire has been prolific this season, sending out 136 winners, so North View is in a stable doing its job. At Class 4 level — the middle tier of competitive racing — North View has won two from 16 races, which is slightly better than its overall average but not by much. The horse belongs in that company but needs the conditions to be right. It's not a horse carrying grand ambitions, but on a warm, dry day at a sharp five-furlong track, North View deserves respect.
