Noble Miss

Her recent form makes for honest reading. Looking at her last six races, the best she has managed is a fourth-place finish, with a tenth and a couple of unplaced efforts filling out the picture. She raced just yesterday, so she is clearly in active work, but the wins have not been coming. At the level she mainly competes at — broadly the bread-and-butter end of the sport — she has won 1 from 5, which works out at roughly one in every five races at that tier. That is actually a decent conversion rate for that grade, suggesting she is competitive enough when she lines up at the right level, even if she has not been able to turn those chances into victories lately.

She is trained by Sarah Humphrey, a small yard based in West Wratting in Cambridgeshire. Eight winners from the stable this season tells you Humphrey is a trainer who knows how to get horses to the track ready to run — this is not a yard just making up the numbers. For a smaller operation, eight winners is a meaningful tally, and Noble Miss will be hoping to add to that count before the season is out. Whether she can recapture the form that got her to Huntingdon's winner's circle 20 months ago is the question worth watching.
