His best ground is normal conditions, where he has won 2 of his 12 races on a surface like that — around 1 in 6 — which is a meaningful jump above his overall record. Get him on the right track, in the right conditions, and he becomes a different proposition. His last win came at Fairyhouse in January 2025, and by the trainer's own account that day, it was a performance to savour. He got to lead from the front, jumped with real confidence throughout, and won doing it the easy way. The trainer — Gavin Cromwell at the time — was bullish afterwards, floating the idea of a good novice chase at Navan as the logical next step.

Since then, though, the wins have dried up. His last six runs read 8, blank, 5, 4, 25, 4 — plenty of places, one alarming tumble or pulled-up run buried in there, and nothing to show at the finish. His regular partner Daniel King has ridden him six times without winning together. That is not necessarily a damning verdict on either horse or jockey — plenty of good partnerships take time to click, or run into bad luck — but it is a combination still searching for its moment.

Clare Ellam now trains him, and her yard has sent out 2 winners this season, so it is a small operation with selective targets rather than a conveyor belt of runners. At Class 2 level — some of the top races in Britain — Noble Birth has run three times and not won any of them, which suggests his ceiling may be just below that tier. He raced just one day ago and remains active, a nine-year-old still competing and still placing. At this stage of a career, that kind of durability is its own small achievement.
