Three-year-olds are still developing, still learning the job, and trainers will often keep running them through a rough patch to build experience rather than expect immediate results. The fourth-place finish most recently is at least a step in the right direction compared to the 13th and 10th that came before it — small comfort, but something to work with.

The horse is trained by Michael Mulvany out of Kells in County Meath, and the yard has sent out 20 winners this season, which shows there's no shortage of ability on the training side. When a capable yard keeps running a horse that hasn't found the winner's enclosure yet, it usually means they see something worth persisting with. Whether Nephin Mountain can justify that patience is the question worth watching.
