Naturalia

Trained by Donald Whillans out of Hawick in the Scottish Borders, Naturalia operates at Class 5 level, which is the bread-and-butter end of the racing calendar. At that level it has won 1 from 14 races, a win rate of around 7%, or roughly 1 in every 14 attempts. That is modest, but the picture changes when the race is run over a longer trip. At distances between one mile six furlongs and two miles, Naturalia has won 1 from 5 races — that is a 20% win rate, or 1 in every 5 outings. In racing terms that is a meaningful difference, and it suggests the horse simply needs time and space to find its rhythm, rather than a sharp, speed-driven contest.

Its two career wins have come at different Scottish tracks — Carlisle in May 2024 and Ayr in July 2025 — which at least suggests it travels well within the region. Jockey Shay Farmer has been the regular partner, riding Naturalia in 15 of its 27 races, but together they have found the winner's enclosure only once, a 7% win rate that mirrors the horse's overall record almost exactly.

The recent form makes for sober reading. Naturalia has not won in its last six races, with finishes of 9th, 10th, 2nd, 9th, 6th, and 2nd — two placed efforts sandwiched between some distant finishes. The yard has had a productive season, sending out 9 winners, so the platform is there. The question is whether Naturalia can find the right race over the right trip to add a third win to its tally. Based on the evidence, a long-distance test on a fair day gives it the best possible chance.
