Naqeeb

The most recent of those occasions was the most impressive. On 24 September 2025, he won a Class 1 race at Goodwood — one of the top races in Britain — at odds that suggested few people expected it. Camacho's assistant Steve Brown put it plainly afterwards: they tried something different, committed to the race, and the horse delivered. Jockey Ryan Sexton, who had also ridden Naqeeb into third at Royal Ascot earlier that year, described a horse that has genuinely improved and learned — one who "travels well" and puts his rider into good positions. That Royal Ascot run, finishing third in the Duke of Edinburgh, had already hinted that there was a big performance somewhere in him.

What makes Naqeeb interesting is that his best trips — between a mile and one furlong and a mile and two furlongs — show a win rate of 25%, or 1 win from 4 races. For context, at Class 2 level, which is where he competes most often, he has won just 1 from 11. So the horse is clearly capable of raising his game when conditions and distance line up. Camacho has been patient with him, running him every two or three weeks and resisting the temptation to write off poor runs. After a disappointing effort at York, she was characteristically pragmatic: put a line through it, move on.

The yard itself is in strong form — 46 winners this season — and Naqeeb raced just one day ago, which means this story is very much still unfolding. His last win was ten months back, but his recent form reads 5-2-5-1-8-2, with that "1" being Goodwood. When the right race comes along at the right distance, he is the kind of horse who asks to be taken seriously.
