His trainer, Nigel Tinkler, based in Langton, North Yorkshire, has been explicit about this: Muker is all speed and absolutely must have quick ground beneath his feet. At eight years old and campaigned mostly in Class 4 races—where he has won twice from fifteen attempts—Muker remains active but is currently on a break. He ran at Southwell recently and got left at the start after anticipating the off, a frustration on the all-weather surface that prompted his trainer to rest him and bring him back next year on firmer turf. He is, as Tinkler notes, unpredictable: genuinely talented but temperamental, a horse whose value lies entirely in finding the perfect race on the perfect day with the perfect ground.
