Muker

The key to Muker is the ground. On normal conditions he has won 4 from 11 races — that is better than 1 in every 3 — and his trainer Nigel Tinkler is clear on the point: this horse wants fast, dry ground and has lots of ability when he gets it. Speed is genuinely his weapon. Multiple riders have made the same observation — that he is all pace — and the jockey who rode him to his last win at Doncaster in July 2025 was effusive afterwards, saying everything had to be perfect and that he simply tries as hard as he can every time. That sort of testimonial from someone who has sat on a lot of horses means something.

Tinkler, based at Langton in North Yorkshire and a yard that has sent out 37 winners already this season, knows his horse well enough to manage him carefully. After Muker got unsettled before a recent race on an artificial surface and was effectively left at the start, the decision was straightforward: no more all-weather racing, a proper break, and come back next year on the right surface. That is smart, patient training. His regular partner Alex Jary has won 5 of their 24 races together — just over 1 in every 5 — which is a notably strong record for a horse who can be unpredictable.

Redcar is where Muker looks most at home, winning 2 from just 5 visits. That might not sound dramatic, but winning 40 per cent of your races at any track is the mark of a horse who genuinely suits the place. His most recent six runs read 8-9-3-5-11-1, with that winning run at Doncaster sandwiched between some quieter efforts. He raced just yesterday, so this is a horse very much in season and very much in the mix. Get him on good ground, give him a pace to chase, and he remains genuinely interesting.
