Moro Rock

That one win came at Stratford-on-Avon on 20 July 2025, and it is worth appreciating what it meant. Stratford is a tight, turning track that rewards horses who know their job, and at nine years old Moro Rock certainly knows his. Seventeen of his 22 races have been at Class 5 level — the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, where most horses spend their working lives — and his record there reads 1 win from 17, a 6% win rate. That is not a figure that inspires fear in the opposition, but it is the level where he belongs and where that win finally came.

Harry Bannister has been in the saddle for 15 of those 22 races together, winning once — a 7% win rate, or 1 in every 15 rides. That is a long partnership to build on relatively modest returns, but consistency between horse and jockey does matter, and Bannister knows this horse better than almost anyone. Trainer Sara Ender, whose yard is based in Malton in North Yorkshire, has sent out 9 winners this season, so there is clearly life in the stable. Moro Rock is not its headline act, but he has been part of the furniture.

What makes him worth watching right now is his recent form. His last six runs read 5-3-7-5-8-1, most recent first — meaning that win at Stratford was not ancient history, and the third-place finish two runs ago suggests he is at least competitive when the conditions suit. He raced just yesterday, which tells you this is an active, working horse still being aimed at races with purpose. At nine, horses do not go on forever, but Moro Rock is clearly still in the game.
