That is not a horse getting lucky in one-off situations; that is a horse performing at its absolute best when it matters most. Charles Hills, who trains the horse from his yard in Lambourn, has had a productive season with 32 winners sent out, and Mitbaahy represents exactly the kind of high-profile ammunition that puts a yard on the map.

One pattern worth noting: on normal ground, Mitbaahy has won 3 of just 7 races, a rate of 43%. That is nearly 1 in every 2 — significantly better than its overall record, which suggests ground conditions genuinely matter here. When the track is playing normally, this horse is a different proposition entirely.

The most recent win came at The Curragh in Ireland in May 2024 — 22 months ago now, which is a long gap for a horse still running at the top level. Recent form has been mixed, with that encouraging second place sandwiched between some modest finishes. At seven years old, Mitbaahy is an experienced campaigner rather than an improving youngster. But the horse raced just three days ago and is clearly still active, still placed in good company, and in the hands of a yard that clearly believes there is more to come. Regular jockey David Egan, who has won on Mitbaahy twice in eight rides together, knows this horse well. Whether another big-race win is coming is an open question — but the form book says this horse has done it before, at the very highest level, more than once.
