That is a markedly different proposition from his overall record, and it suggests that when the race unfolds to suit him—a steadier tempo, room to get into a rhythm—he is a genuinely dangerous proposition. He is also most at home in Class 5 races, where he has won 3 of his last 11 outings, a win rate of about 27 percent. Put him in that grade at the right distance and the form jumps into focus.

His recent form shows a horse still capable of competing. He was placed second just last week, and before that won at Lingfield Park three weeks ago, so there is no rustiness to contend with. He runs for the yard of Gary and Josh Moore at Lower Beeding in West Sussex, a training operation that sent out 99 winners this season, and is most often partnered by Joe Fanning. That particular pairing has not quite clicked yet—they have managed just one win from ten races together—but Mister Daydream remains a horse worth watching, especially at his preferred distances and in his preferred grades.
