Miraculous is trained by Roger Varian, one of the most respected yards in British racing, based in Newmarket, Suffolk. The operation has sent out 86 winners already this season, so Miraculous is part of a well-oiled machine with serious expectations. Most of its races have been at Class 4 level — a solid mid-tier grade — where it has won 1 from 6 (around 17%, or roughly 1 in every 6 races at that level). That's not a dominant record, but the frame finishes suggest a horse that is rarely out of the picture.

That's actually a solid partnership ratio, and there's clearly a degree of trust from the yard in keeping that combination together.

The most striking thing right now, though, is the absence. Miraculous hasn't raced for 162 days — roughly five months — and returns after a break with recent form figures of 9-7-2-11-3-1 (reading from most recent to oldest). That sequence is a little mixed: a win, then a third, then an eleventh, then a second, a seventh, and a ninth. It paints a picture of a horse capable of brilliance but not always reproducing it. Whether the layoff has refreshed or rustled the horse is the real question.
