Midnight Rumble

Class 4 racing—a mid-tier level—has been particularly unkind. Midnight Rumble has run 14 times at that standard and has not won once, which tells you something about the ceiling of his ability in a competitive field. His jockey Rossa Ryan, who has partnered him on six occasions, has yet to taste victory in the saddle aboard him either. Most recently, just a day ago, Midnight Rumble finished sixth, continuing a cold streak that now stretches back months.

The trainer has suggested the horse showed useful form earlier in the year and indicated plans to give him another run on the Flat before potentially switching him to hurdles racing—a different discipline entirely. However, those plans hit a snag when Midnight Rumble developed a sinus infection, sidelining him for a spell. Whether a change of pace or surface might reignite something is an open question, but right now Midnight Rumble looks like a horse searching for a race within his reach.
