The most interesting number in Michaela's Boy's record is actually a zero. He has run 13 times at Class 2 level — the upper tier of British racing — and has yet to win at that level. That is not a failure so much as a statement of where he belongs: he competes at the top end, gets close, but finds those fields just a touch too strong. Drop him back slightly in grade, though, and he becomes a different proposition. He has won twice from just five visits to Lingfield Park, which is the kind of record that makes jockeys' eyes light up when the draw comes out. Luke Morris, who rides him more than anyone else, winning 3 of their 12 races together — roughly 1 in every 4 — put it plainly after one of those Lingfield wins: he knew the horse was well-handicapped, got a perfect position in the race, and let him do the rest. "Robert's got him in great form," Morris said, and that much is hard to argue with.

What makes Michaela's Boy particularly worth following right now is that he is in the form of his life. His last win came at Great Yarmouth just three weeks ago — and his recent run of results shows him finishing second and then winning, which is exactly the kind of upward curve that matters. He raced just yesterday, so he is clearly being kept busy by a yard that believes there is more to come. His current form is a little mixed across the last six runs, but the direction of travel is encouraging. This is a horse who has figured out what he is good at and where he likes to do it — and at six, he is still young enough that the best may not quite be behind him yet.
