He was previously trained elsewhere before joining George Baker's yard at Epsom Downs in Surrey, a trainer who has sent out 14 winners already this season. Baker was immediately enthusiastic, describing Max Mayhem as a horse he is "quite excited about" — and the reason is a trip to the prestigious Meydan track in Dubai, where the horse won as recently as March 2025. The syndicate who bought him for 28,000 guineas did so with exactly that kind of international fun in mind. Baker noted that he doesn't mind fast, dry ground, which matters hugely for racing in the Gulf.

His most regular jockey is Benoit De La Sayette, who has ridden him 6 times and won once together — 1 win from 6, or about 17%. But it is worth noting that some of his biggest moments have come with other riders. After his second Kempton win, jockey Daniel Muscutt was full of praise for the precise targeting of those races — a reminder that patient, strategic preparation is often what separates a good horse from a well-used one. On wet or muddy ground he is even more dangerous, winning 2 of just 4 races in those conditions, a 50% record that few horses at any level can match.

His recent form reads 7-6-9-10-8-1, which means five disappointing finishes bookended by that Meydan victory. He raced just yesterday and clearly remains active. At eight years old, Max Mayhem is no youngster — but he is a horse who picks his moments, and when conditions suit him, he has a habit of turning up at exactly the right time.
