Martaban made a debut to forget, finishing fourth in a race just a day ago. The two-year-old is trained by Eve Johnson Houghton, whose Blewbury yard in Oxfordshire has been in fine form this season, with 42 winners already notched up. It's far too early to read anything into a single race — plenty of young horses need time to find their feet — but Martaban will need to show improvement next time out if it's to become a regular winner.
