Des Donovan's Newmarket yard has found Mart's sweet spot on normal ground, where it has won two of nine races — 22 per cent. Strip away the track-dependent frustrations and softer surfaces, and you see a horse that actually performs when conditions suit. The last win came at Lingfield Park on 31 May 2025, a track where Mart has enjoyed genuine success: seven wins from 57 career races, but two of those have come at Lingfield, suggesting a real affinity with that course.

The partnership with jockey Rhys Clutterbuck stands out as the clearest indicator of what Mart can do. In 14 races together, they have three wins — 21 per cent — which is nearly double the overall win rate. That is the kind of working relationship that suggests genuine understanding. However, recent form has been unkind: Mart has not won in six runs, finishing ninth, ninth, sixth, second, then a blank, then sixth again. The second place suggests the horse is still competitive, but the wins have dried up for 17 months. At five years old and still racing regularly, Mart remains an active competitor on the Class 5 circuit, exactly where it belongs.
