Finishing second and third repeatedly without converting is the definition of frustrating from a punter's perspective, but it also means the horse is fit, competitive, and not far away.

Marlacoo operates mainly at Class 4 level, which sits in the middle tier of British racing — not the glamour end, but a competitive and honest grade. At that level, the win rate is 1 from 10 races (10%), which sounds modest but reflects just how hard it is to win consistently when you're meeting similar horses race after race. Jockey Stan Sheppard has been aboard for 10 of the 13 career races, and their partnership has produced that same ratio — 1 win together from 10 races. A consistent combination, if not a prolific one.

With consistent placing form and a trainer firing on all cylinders, another win might not be far off.
