The recent run of form makes for familiar reading: no win in the last six races, with finishes of 4th, 6th, 10th, 3rd, 15th, and a pulled-up run mixed in. That third place is the bright spot, a sign that on a good day Mapa can get involved, but the inconsistency is hard to ignore. Raced as recently as yesterday, so this is a horse firmly in active campaign.
Robbie Colgan has been the regular partner in the saddle, riding Mapa in 13 of those 21 races without a win to show for it. That's a long partnership without a payday for either of them, though it does suggest the team see something worth persevering with. Trainer Sheila Lavery operates out of Summerhill in County Meath and has sent out three winners this season — a yard that clearly knows how to get a horse to the front, which makes Mapa something of an outlier in the string. Whether Lavery finds the right spot to finally unlock a win for this horse remains the interesting question.
