Charlie Deutsch, who rides him in most of his races, has a 25 per cent win rate aboard him, winning twice from eight races together. That working relationship matters; Deutsch clearly understands how to get the best from him. Mel Rowley's Bridgnorth yard is having a solid season with thirteen winners already, so the horse returns to a yard in good form.

The recent form reads –-1-8-–-1-2 across his last six races before the break, meaning he finished second and third in some outings — solid efforts that show he was still competitive before his long absence. The real question now is how the eleven-month layoff has affected him. Horses that return from that length of time can need a race or two to find their feet again, but Mahland's track record in Class 4 company gives him every chance of getting back to winning ways reasonably quickly if his yard has brought him back right.
