Lusaka

The picture becomes clearer when you look at where Lusaka has thrived. The horse absolutely dominates at Bath, winning 2 of its 5 races there — a 40% win rate that stands out sharply against everything else. It also performs noticeably better on fast, dry ground, winning 2 of 5 races (40%) when conditions favour speed over slog. The distance that suits it best is the longer end of the spectrum: between a mile and six furlongs and two miles, Lusaka has won 6 of 24 races, a respectable 25% return. But here's where the trouble lies — Lusaka has not won a single race in 15 starts at Class 4, the bread-and-butter level it has been competing at more recently. Its Class 2 success on 16 September 2023 at Bath suggests it was once capable of better, but it has since slipped down the scale without rediscovering its winning touch.

The one genuinely bright spot is the partnership with jockey Taylor Fisher. Together they have won 4 of 6 races, a 67% win rate that is entirely different from the horse's overall form. When Fisher is in the saddle, Lusaka looks like a different proposition — a class horse finding its feet again. Trained by John and Rhys Flint at their Kenfig Hill yard in Bridgend, Lusaka has the experience and the pedigree to bounce back, but time is passing and the losing run is long. The horse needs a return to Bath, dry ground, and ideally a race where Taylor Fisher can work his magic. Without those conditions aligning, Lusaka risks becoming just another journeyman plodding through the middle ranks.
