So the course record stands out sharply against everything else. Something about Newcastle suits this horse. The track, the ground, the whole setup. The first career win there came in March 2025, and two more followed, suggesting this is not a fluke built on a single good day.

Normal conditions bring out the best in Luminaries more generally. On standard ground, the horse has won 3 of 12 races — 1 in every 4 — a noticeably better return than the overall career average. Wet or very dry ground, by comparison, appears to take the edge off things.

Luminaries sits within a stable that clearly knows what it is doing with horses of this type.

Recent form is a concern, though. The last win came at Kelso over a year ago, and the last six runs show finishes of 10th, 9th, 9th, a non-completion, and two thirds — nothing to suggest a return to winning ways is imminent. The horse raced just yesterday, so the yard are keeping Luminaries busy. Whether that busy schedule eventually delivers another day like the best Newcastle performances remains to be seen.
