The form figures tell a difficult story. Looking at the last six races — ninth, seventh, a blank, third, sixth, and another blank — there are occasional glimpses of something, most notably that third place, but nothing that has been built upon. At Class 5, which is the entry level of British racing, League Clash has run five times without winning any of them. That is the level where horses with limited ability tend to spend their careers, and so far it has not managed to be the best even there.
Lewis's yard has sent out four winners this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get horses into the right races. League Clash, though, has not yet been one of those success stories. Whether it eventually finds a race that suits, or simply remains a horse that gives its the yard some competitive days out without troubling the judge, only time will tell. For now, it is a horse still searching for its moment.
