Lake Chad

The headline number is a 10% win rate overall — roughly one win in every ten races — which is modest on paper. But that figure hides something interesting. At Tramore, the small track on the south coast of Ireland, Lake Chad transforms. Four wins from 15 races there works out to better than one win in four, and that kind of dominance at a specific track is rare. Horses don't read track maps, but somehow Lake Chad has found a circuit that suits everything about the way it runs. The most recent of those Tramore wins came just six weeks ago, on 20 April 2026, which means this is not a horse living off past glories — it is still in form, still winning.

The recent run of results backs that up. Going backwards from the last race, the form reads 8-1-10-2-3-4. That middle section — second, third, fourth — is the work of a horse that is competitive and present, not one that has gone off the boil. The most recent run was an eighth, which is worth keeping in perspective given the horse raced just yesterday and has been busy throughout.

Niall Moore has ridden Lake Chad more than anyone else, partnering the horse in 32 of its 62 races and winning three times together. That's about a 9% win rate as a partnership, just below the horse's overall average, but the consistency of that relationship matters. When a jockey rides the same horse that many times, they know each other.

Philip Fenton's yard has sent out seven winners already this season, so this is a trainer in decent form with horses running well. Lake Chad's first win came at Limerick back in November 2021, and the fact it is still winning races nearly five years later, at the age of 11, says everything about how the horse has been managed. Some horses are built for one big moment. Lake Chad seems built to keep going.
