Kosometsuke

The most recent form tells an encouraging story. Two wins from the last 6 races, with the sequence reading 4-8-5-1-4-1 from most recent back — those two 1s jumping out immediately. The latest success came at Thirsk in April 2026, a track in North Yorkshire with a character all of its own, and the first win of the career arrived at Kempton Park back in May 2025. Getting off the mark is always a milestone, and Kosometsuke has now built on it convincingly.

The horse is trained by Michael Dods, whose operation at Piercebridge in County Durham has been in excellent form — 43 winners sent out this season alone. That is not a yard drifting along quietly; that is a yard firing on all cylinders, and horses trained there tend to arrive at the track ready to perform. Kosometsuke looks like a product of that confidence.

In the saddle, Jack Mitchell has been the regular partner, riding together in 9 of the 14 races and winning 2 of them — a win rate of 22%, which is marginally better than the horse's overall record and suggests the partnership is a productive one. The chemistry between a jockey and a particular horse matters more than casual observers might expect, and Mitchell clearly knows what he is working with here.

The bulk of Kosometsuke's racing has come at Class 4 level — solid, competitive racing without being at the very top of the sport — winning 1 from 6 at that grade, or about 1 in 6. There may well be more to come as the yard find the right opportunities. Having raced just yesterday and with two wins already in recent months, this is a horse in form, in a yard in form, with a jockey who knows the ride. Worth keeping an eye on.
