The Thirsk win on 16 May is the headline so far, and it came from a horse with barely any experience to draw on. That matters, because two-year-olds are essentially teenagers being asked to compete athletically — some take months to figure it out, and Kodi Bear Light did it almost straight away. The subsequent placed finish suggests that wasn't a fluke either; this horse is consistently showing up near the front.

Behind the scenes, Kodi Bear Light is in excellent hands. Trainer K R Burke operates out of Coverham in North Yorkshire and has sent out 140 winners already this season — a number that reflects a yard firing on all cylinders. Burke has a reputation for bringing young horses along smartly, and with a two-year-old already winning and placing in its first three outings, it looks like that process is working well here. With the horse having raced just one day ago and still very much active, there's every reason to think the best is still to come.
