In those shortest, fastest races, Kinetic Force has won 1 from 3 — that's roughly 1 in every 3 — which is the kind of ratio that makes a trainer sit up and take notice. Speed is clearly where he lives. Carr herself has described him as a "proper fast sprinter," and the results back that up. He came to her yard from Des Donovan's operation, made an immediate impression at Newcastle first time out for the stable, and then ran a solid third at Musselburgh. The talent has been visible from the start.

What makes him a slightly complicated character is that Carr has also been candid about his personality — quirky and highly strung are the words she used. Horses like that can be brilliant and infuriating in equal measure, capable of running a stormer one day and completely losing the plot the next. His recent form tells that story well: a win at Thirsk just four weeks ago on 2 May, then a third-place finish, then a first — a proper return to form — followed by a tenth just yesterday. That's the pattern of a horse who has the engine but doesn't always choose to use it.

Carr's yard has been in excellent form this season — 63 winners sent out already — so Kinetic Force is part of a genuinely productive operation rather than a team scraping around for runners. His Class 4 record (0 wins from 8 races at that level) might look underwhelming, but his best performances suggest the key is finding him the right trip, the right conditions, and hoping the quirky side stays quiet on the day. When everything clicks, he's capable of surprising people.
