What makes Kadex interesting right now is the return from a long break. The horse has not raced for a full year, last appearing around 360 days ago with a fifth-place finish. Comebacks like this are always intriguing: sometimes a rest sharpens a horse up; sometimes it does more harm than good. Kadex will need to prove it still has the appetite for racing after such a long time away.

When Kadex has competed at Class 5 level — the lower rungs of the sport — it has won 1 of 9 races, an 11% win rate. That is better than its overall numbers and suggests the horse is at least capable of winning at its level, even if rarely. Most of Kadex's races have been at this grade, and it is where it will likely return. Under trainer Alan Jones, who has sent out four winners this season, and most often ridden by Tom Cannon — who has a 17% win rate aboard the horse from six races together — Kadex at least has a setup that knows what it is doing. Whether that is enough to break a 30-month losing streak remains to be seen.
