What's instructive is where those wins came from. When Jet Patrol races at the lower levels of the sport — Class 5, the kind of race that is meant to be winnable for a horse of its ability — it wins at a much sharper rate: 2 wins from 12 races, or 17 per cent. That is a different proposition altogether. The problem is that the horse hasn't managed a win since September last year, nearly a year ago at Plumpton. The debut win came at Stratford-on-Avon in August 2025, but since then Jet Patrol has been caught in a long dry spell, collecting places — six of them across those 23 races — without getting back to the winner's enclosure.
James Owen, who trains the horse from his Newmarket yard, has had a strong season overall, sending out 205 winners. That's the kind of stable built on consistent results, the sort of operation where horses are properly prepared. For Jet Patrol, the task now is simple: find the form that produced wins at the right level, or accept that the winning days may be behind it. At nine years old and winless for a year, time is becoming the horse's enemy.
