He tends to be most effective over a trip of one mile six furlongs up to two miles, winning 1 from 6 races at those distances — a 17% win rate, meaning he wins almost 1 in every 5 times he races over that range. That is the sweet spot for him, and any time he lines up at that trip, he is worth watching.

He is trained by James Owen at Newmarket, which is one of the great centres of British racing. Owen's yard has been in outstanding form this season, sending out 205 winners — a remarkable number that suggests a well-run, confident operation. A horse from a yard firing at that rate is unlikely to be showing up just to make up the numbers.

Jet Patrol raced just yesterday, so he is right in the thick of a busy campaign. His last win was nine months ago at Plumpton, which is a decent gap, but the recent form figures of two wins in six races suggest he has rediscovered some enthusiasm. For a nine-year-old with a modest career record, that kind of late-season revival is genuinely charming — and with a busy yard behind him and the right conditions, there may still be another win or two in him yet.
