That Bellewstown success, though, is worth holding onto as the one proof of concept. It shows Jazz Dreamers can get it right on the right day, and interestingly the horse's best numbers come over distances of seven furlongs to a mile, where the record reads one win from six races — winning 1 in every 6 at that trip, which is comfortably the strongest part of the profile. Away from that sweet spot, the figures thin out considerably.
Recent form offers little encouragement. The last six runs have produced finishes of 8th, 9th, 7th, 14th, 6th, and 11th — no placing, no real near-misses, and a 14th in there that suggests at least one tough afternoon. Regular partner Oisin McSweeney has yet to find the key, going winless from five rides together. Trainer Seamus Fahey, based in Monasterevin in County Kildare, has sent out one winner so far this season, so it is a yard operating at modest levels rather than one in red-hot form.
Jazz Dreamers raced just yesterday and is clearly still being kept active, which says something about the team's belief that there is still a race to be found somewhere. At eight years old, the window is not wide open, but horses of this type occasionally find a race that suits just well enough. Whether another Bellewstown afternoon is waiting remains to be seen — but for now, this is a horse whose career is more about loyalty than silverware.
