His trainer noted after the race that fitting a visor — a piece of headgear designed to sharpen a horse's focus — had made all the difference, and Isle Of Sark responded with what sounds like a performance full of determination. It was his most recent win, eight months ago now, and it suggests that when the conditions and equipment align, he still has something to offer.

Since then, however, the results have tailed off.
