That one career win came at Tramore on 14 April 2025, and it remains the defining moment of Island McCoo's racing life so far. Tramore is a tight, twisting track on the south coast of Ireland, and it clearly suited this horse on the day. Whether that combination of track, conditions, and occasion comes around again is the question every run now answers — so far, the answer has been no. The six races since that win have returned a blank, a ninth, two eighths, a fourth, and a second, reading from most recent backwards. There are some encouraging signs in there — that second place especially — but also some quiet afternoons.

Island McCoo is trained by Donncha Duggan out of Kilfinane in County Limerick, a small yard that has sent out three winners this season, which for an operation of that size represents a perfectly respectable return. Duggan clearly has the horse fit and ready — Island McCoo raced just yesterday — and the fact that a second place appears in recent form suggests the horse is not running out of ideas entirely. At nine years old, racehorses are experienced and set in their ways; you know what you're getting, and what you're getting with Island McCoo is a genuine competitor who will fill a place more often than win one.
