What makes Inlet's situation particularly puzzling is where it has been racing. Class 6 is the bottom rung of British racing — these are the races specifically designed to give horses like Inlet a winnable opportunity. And yet across 10 races at that level, the win column remains stubbornly empty. Three placings suggest there is some ability here, but converting that into an actual victory has so far proved beyond the horse.

The partnership with jockey Connor Planas has been given every chance to click. Nine races together, zero wins — though it is worth noting that Planas has at least been consistent in steering Inlet into placed positions on occasion. Still, nine attempts without a win is a long run of near-misses, and it raises the question of whether a change of approach might shake something loose.

Trainer Mike Sowersby operates out of Little Barugh in North Yorkshire, and the yard is clearly capable — six winners already on the board this season shows the string is in decent health. That makes Inlet something of an outlier in the stable, a horse that keeps showing up without quite delivering. Recent form reads 5-12-5-5-5-2, and that second place 14 days ago is at least a sign of life — a reminder that the ability to compete is there, even if the ability to win has not yet surfaced. Racing 14 days ago means Inlet is fit and active, so another chance is likely coming soon. Whether the answer finally arrives is another matter entirely.
