In other words, on the worst possible ground, when other horses are slipping about and hating every step, this one genuinely thrives. If you ever see a rain forecast and Impressor's name on a racecard, that's worth noting.

Then there is Hamilton Park, a tight, undulating track in the west of Scotland where Impressor has found a home. Three wins from 16 races there might not sound earth-shattering, but when a horse is winning 3 times at a single course while its overall record shows 7 wins from 65 races, the pattern is impossible to ignore. Nearly half its career wins have come at the same venue. The most recent came in September 2025, so it has been nine months since Impressor last visited the winner's enclosure — and the last six races have produced no wins at all.

Phillip Makin's yard at Easingwold in North Yorkshire has sent out 9 winners this season, so the operation is in decent shape. Regular jockey Rowan Scott has partnered Impressor in 28 of those 65 races, winning 2 of them — about 1 in every 14 rides together, which suggests the combination works well enough without setting the world alight. Impressor tends to run in Class 6, the entry-level tier of British racing, where it has won 4 of 27 races — roughly 1 in every 7. This is a horse that competes consistently at its level, knows exactly what it is doing, and on the right ground at the right track, can still surprise you.
