That long gap between his last win and today raises a question mark: has he lost something, or is he simply waiting for the right race at the right distance under the right conditions?

Cian Collins trains him at Navan in County Meath, where the yard is having a decent season with 20 winners. Jack Cleary, his most frequent jockey, has never won aboard him—0 wins from 8 rides—which is worth noting if you are trying to make a case for why Impero might suddenly find form. The one clear pattern in his favour is his love of normal ground. On standard conditions he wins roughly one race in every four (3 wins from 13 races, 23 percent), his best conversion rate. If Império ever comes back to a long-distance race over normal ground, conditions could finally align. Until then, he remains a horse that delivers occasionally but not often enough to inspire confidence.
