The last victory came at Cork in March 2024, now 26 months ago, and Immutable has gone six races without winning since. That's the obvious cloud. But look closer and there's a silver lining tucked inside the stats: when the ground is genuinely wet and heavy, this horse transforms. Two wins from just three races on very wet ground, a 67% win rate, is a remarkable number — the kind of record that makes stable staff check the weather forecast every morning. In a dry spring or summer, Immutable can look ordinary. Let the skies open, and the picture changes entirely.

Distance matters too. The sweet spot is a mile and a furlong to a mile and two furlongs — two wins from six races at that range, which works out at 1 in 3. That might not sound jaw-dropping, but it tells you Murphy's team have worked out exactly where this horse is happiest and keeps coming back to it. Speaking of Murphy, his yard has sent out 19 winners already this season, so this is an operation that knows what it's doing.

The partnership with jockey Gary Carroll is worth noting. Carroll has ridden Immutable in 11 of its 19 races and claimed 3 of the horse's 4 career wins — a win rate of 27% together, or just over 1 in 4. That is meaningfully better than the horse's overall record and suggests the two have built a real understanding. When Carroll is in the saddle and the ground is soft and heavy, Immutable becomes a genuinely different proposition.

Raced just yesterday and still active, this is a horse at a crossroads. The drought since March 2024 is long by any measure, and patience will only stretch so far. But with the right conditions — wet ground, the right trip, Carroll aboard — the ingredients for another win are still very much there.
