Houndsworth

Houndsworth is trained by Mark Michael McNiff, operating out of Strandhill in County Sligo on the west coast of Ireland. It is a small operation rather than a powerhouse stable, but the yard has sent out five winners this season, which shows McNiff knows how to get a horse ready to win. The question is whether Houndsworth can become the next one to oblige.

At the level where Houndsworth typically competes — Class 4, which sits in the middle tier of the racing ladder — the horse has run three times without troubling the scorer. That third-place finish remains the high-water mark of the whole career. For a horse without a win, that one result matters: it proves Houndsworth can get competitive, even if turning that into a victory has so far proved elusive. After a lengthy break, the first run back will tell us plenty about where things stand.
