Trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam at her base in Dalham, Suffolk, Hollywell Stream is part of a yard that has hit real form this season, sending out 24 winners. That is a productive operation, and having your name above the stable door of a trainer in that kind of rhythm is no bad thing for a young horse still finding its feet.
The recent form tells a slightly mixed story. Those two runner-up finishes are encouraging, but a fifth and a sixth are sandwiched in there too, which suggests Hollywell Stream is not yet entirely consistent. Raced just one day ago, this is a horse very much in the middle of its campaign — and at three years old, there is every reason to expect improvement as the season goes on. Three-year-olds often take time to settle into a routine, and the difference between a horse that finishes second twice and one that starts winning can sometimes be as simple as finding the right race on the right day.
No wins yet, but two places from four races is a decent enough platform to build from. Watch this space.
