Musselburgh, the compact seaside track on the Firth of Forth, is where Highland Olly comes alive. Two wins from just four races there is a remarkable return — that's winning half the time at a specific course, compared to just 1 in 8 everywhere else. The first win came at Musselburgh in August 2024, and the most recent was there too, in August 2025. When this horse goes back to that track, you pay attention.

Normal ground is another key ingredient. On standard conditions, Highland Olly has won 3 from 9 races — that's 1 in every 3, a genuinely strong figure. On anything softer or firmer, the results don't follow. Conditions matter here, and the team around this horse, trained by Grant Tuer from his yard in Birkby, North Yorkshire, clearly knows it. Tuer has sent out 23 winners already this season, so this is a stable that knows how to place a horse to win.

The partnership with jockey Harrison Shaw is worth noting too. Shaw has ridden Highland Olly in 15 of its 24 races and has been aboard for all three wins — a win rate of 20% together, or 3 from 15, which is significantly better than the overall career record suggests. That kind of consistency between horse and rider usually means the jockey understands how to get the best from the animal, and Tuer clearly trusts him with this one.

The recent form reads 5-7-5-6-1-4 — a victory sandwiched between some indifferent efforts, and the horse raced just yesterday. The level Highland Olly competes at most often, Class 5, hasn't produced a win yet from 12 attempts, which is a slight puzzle given the overall record. The wins have come at better moments, in races where the stars aligned: the right track, the right ground, the right jockey. Get those three things together again and Highland Olly is genuinely difficult to dismiss.
