That is a genuinely solid conversion rate and suggests a horse that has found its niche — it just needs to be pointed at the right race.

Class matters here too. Competing at Class 5 level — the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, where horses of a similar modest grade meet each other — Green Icon has won 2 of only 3 races, a remarkable 67% win rate. In other words, when it drops into the right company at the right distance, it becomes a different animal entirely. The two wins bear that out: first at Chelmsford in August 2024, then at Haydock Park in September 2024. Yet his most regular jockey partnership with Green Icon, J M Sheridan, has yet to deliver: 0 wins from 7 rides together. That is a combination that has had its chances and not converted. Whether the yard changes things up remains to be seen — Green Icon raced just yesterday and is clearly being kept busy. The raw talent to win at a decent level in the right conditions is there in the record. The question is whether those conditions can be found again.
