Grandlad

The key to understanding Grandlad is ground conditions. On normal ground, he has won 4 of his 5 races — that's an 80% win rate, which is a remarkable figure by any standard. When the ground is right, he is close to unbeatable. He also has a real affinity for Goodwood, one of the most beautiful and technically tricky tracks in Britain, where he has won 2 of his 4 visits. Plenty of horses never figure out Goodwood at all, so winning half your races there marks Grandlad out as a genuine course specialist.

His biggest win came at Hamilton Park on 2 August 2025, when he won a Class 2 race — one of the top tier events in British racing. That result showed he can compete at a high level when the conditions suit. His most recent win came at Nottingham in April 2026, around three months ago, though his current form is encouraging: his last six runs read 6-1-4-8-5-2, meaning he has placed in four of those six races and won one of them.

Adam Farragher rides him most often, and the partnership works — together they have won 4 from 15 races, roughly 1 in every 4, which mirrors Grandlad's overall record. The one puzzle in his profile is that at Class 3 level, the step below the very top races, he has yet to win from 11 attempts. It's an odd gap for a horse who has proved himself in better company. Whether that changes soon is the question worth watching — but with Grandlad having raced just yesterday and clearly still very much in training, the answer may not be long in coming.
