The real story here is Graffiti's relationship with Fontwell Park. Over four races at that course, it has won twice, which is a win rate of one win in every two races—a dramatic contrast to its overall record. Last week, on 28 August, Graffiti won there again, which gives the horse genuine form lines to follow. On faster, drier ground generally, Graffiti lifts its game: it has won twice from ten races on good ground (20% win rate), and at distances of two miles or longer it has won twice from eight (25%). The horse clearly thrives on a firm surface with room to stretch out over time.

Recent form tells a mixed story. In its last six races, Graffiti has won twice and placed twice more, but also been beaten badly twice (finishing fifth). That pattern—flashes of genuine ability punctuated by poor efforts—is typical of a horse that needs the right conditions and the right race. Miss Isabelle Ryder, who has ridden Graffiti nine times, has yet to hit the mark in the saddle, which raises questions about whether a different jockey might get more from it. For a horse that loves dry ground and long distances at Fontwell Park, the next step is finding another track where those strengths count just as much.
