The most striking thing about Gordon Grey right now is his form. He has won 4 of his last 6 races, a run that speaks to a horse hitting its stride at exactly the right moment. His jockey put it best after a recent win at Epsom, describing the experience as being a passenger rather than a pilot — Gordon Grey set his own pace, controlled his own race, and essentially decided when the job was done. That kind of self-possession in a racehorse is rarer than you might think.

The Epsom track, where George Baker's yard is also based, seems to suit him perfectly. He has won 3 of his 5 races there, a win rate of 60%, which is remarkable — at most tracks, even very good horses win only 1 in 5 or 6. Racing on home soil clearly suits him. He also handles normal and dry ground well, winning 4 from 11 on normal conditions and 2 from 5 on fast, dry ground, suggesting he is a fair-weather performer in the best sense.
