Most of its racing has come at Class 6 level, the entry point of the racing ladder, where it has won just 1 from 12 races (8%), which is on the modest side even for that grade. It raises an interesting question about whether the horse might be better suited stepping up slightly in class rather than grinding away at the bottom rung.

Queally is an experienced rider who tends to suit horses that need a patient, measured approach, and that may well fit. The training operation behind Gone Rogue is Gary and Josh Moore at Lower Beeding in West Sussex — a yard that has sent out 94 winners this season, so they clearly know how to place a horse to win.

The most pressing question is what five months off has done for Gone Rogue. Its last run was a win at Brighton in October 2025, which is the perfect note to return on, but a break of that length at four years old can cut either way. If the yard has used the time well and the horse comes back fresh rather than ring-rusty, there is every reason to think it can build on that Brighton win. The form before it — a seventh and a sixth — showed a horse that had dipped, so the October win came at just the right moment to restore confidence. Whether it can do the same again after this long spell off will tell us a great deal about where this horse is actually heading.
