Musselburgh is where Golden Valour comes alive. That's the kind of course form that matters. When a horse keeps running back to the same place and keeps performing, it isn't a coincidence — it tells you something real about what he needs. His last win came at Musselburgh in September 2025, so it has now been around nine months since he last got his head in front, but his recent form shows a fifth, a seventh, and a fifth in his last six outings. Smith has suggested Golden Valour is a better horse than his official rating reflects, and a note from a trainer after a Dundalk run put it plainly: he felt the horse was simply better than his mark suggested, blaming the tough conditions rather than the horse. Smith has had 25 winners from his yard this season, so this is not a struggling operation — Golden Valour is just a difficult horse to win with. Jockey Rhys Elliott, who has ridden him in 10 of his races for 1 win together, will know the feeling well.

At 10 years old, Golden Valour isn't building toward anything — but he keeps showing up, keeps placing, and has a track where he genuinely threatens. For a horse at this level, that's enough to make him worth following whenever Musselburgh comes around.
