The recent form offers a little encouragement, at least. A third and a fourth in its last few recorded finishes suggest Ghost Jury is running consistently enough — not falling out of bed at the back of the field, but not quite finding that extra gear when it matters either. Jockey Ben Godfrey has been the regular partner through six of those races together, and the pair are yet to get off the mark as a combination. When the same horse and rider keep trying and keep coming up short, you start to wonder whether the problem is finding the right race rather than a lack of ability.
Trainer Kayley Woollacott operates out of Woolminstone in Somerset and has sent out 16 winners this season, so the yard clearly knows how to get horses winning. Ghost Jury tends to compete at the lower end of the racing ladder, in Class 5 races — the level where horses are expected to have a chance of winning rather than just making up the numbers. Five races at that level, zero wins. For a horse of this age, finding that breakthrough is becoming more urgent, not less. The clock does not run backwards in this sport.
Raced as recently as yesterday, Ghost Jury is clearly still being aimed at opportunities. Whether that persistence pays off is the question — but the fact the team keeps running it suggests they believe there is a win somewhere in there.
