Get The Value

The two wins that do sit on the record are worth looking at. The first came at Stratford-on-Avon in March 2025, and the second followed at Newton Abbot in May 2025 — a productive little purple patch that suggested the horse had found some form. But that Newton Abbot win was now 14 months ago, and since then Get The Value has gone six races without adding to the tally. The most recent form figures — a third place sandwiched between a string of unplaced runs — suggest a horse that occasionally pops up to remind you it is still there, then disappears again into the pack.

The ground tells part of the story. Get The Value has won both its races on normal conditions, going 2 from 14 on that surface — which works out to 14%, or roughly 1 in every 7 races. That is a genuinely decent return, and it means when the ground comes up right, this horse is worth watching. It has shown nothing, however, at Class 4 level, its most common grade of competition, losing all 9 races it has contested there. That is a stubborn blank that suggests it finds things just a touch too competitive at that level unless conditions fall perfectly in its favour.

O'Shea's yard has sent out 6 winners this season, so the operation is ticking along, and with a horse that clearly comes alive on normal ground, there will be days when Get The Value makes those two wins feel like a sign of things to come rather than a distant memory.
