Garden Oasis

The partnership with jockey David Allan is the heart of the story. In 29 races together, Allan has ridden Garden Oasis to all seven of its wins — a win rate of around 1 in 4, which is a genuinely strong number and tells you this is a combination that works. Allan knows the horse inside out, and it shows. Speaking after a win at Ripon, he described the strategy plainly: run the early pace out of them, hold the rail, and trust that Garden Oasis will dig in when it matters. "He's as game as they come," Allan said — and that phrase carries weight when you are talking about a horse in its eleventh year still finding ways to be competitive.

Trainer Tim Easterby, whose yard at Great Habton in North Yorkshire has sent out 128 winners this season alone, has long understood what gets the best from this horse. Dry ground is key — on fast conditions, Garden Oasis has won 4 from 15 races, a win rate of 27%, compared to just 3 from the remaining 39. Easterby noted early in the horse's career that a mile on good ground was the sweet spot, and the record bears that out entirely. Ayr is another detail worth noting: 2 wins from just 5 visits makes it a genuine course specialist there, the kind of track record that would make punters take notice.

The last win came at Pontefract in August 2025, and the six races since have brought two places and four minor finishes without a win. Allan has been candid that age has taken some of the sharpness away — the explosive finishing kick Garden Oasis once had is no longer there — but the horse compensates by grinding, staying honest, and refusing to be passed at pace. At 11, with a career still very much in motion, Garden Oasis is a horse defined less by brilliance than by staying power. Sometimes that is the more interesting story.
